One of IQ Biology’s research areas involves incorporating imaging techniques into biology. As a student, you may choose the participate in research in the following labs:
- The Bryant (Chemical and Biological Engineering) and Palmer (Chemical Biology) Labs are working together to develop a 3-D cell culture system that enables real-time imaging and quantitative assessment of intracellular Ca2+under physiologically relevant mechanical forces. This information is being used to better design strategies for regenerative medicine.
- The Palmer Lab (Chemical Biology) is enhancing fluorescent protein techniques to track the complex invasion mechanism of salmonella, without interfering with this process. A better understanding of this process is key to blocking rather than killing salmonella, which would put a strong evolutionary pressure on these harmful bacteria to resist anti-bacterial treatment.
